Here is a prelude of what is to come.....

Alan Shadrake has just written a new hard-hitting book that cuts through the façade of official silence to reveal disturbing truths about Singapore’s use of the death penalty. It contains in-depth interviews with Darshan Singh, Singapore’s chief executioner for nearly fifty years, to meticulously researched accounts of numerous high profile cases. It reveals the
cruelty and imprudence of an entire judicial system.

‘Alan Shadrake’s book, Once a Jolly Hangman, is a timely contribution
to growing criticism of Singapore’s shameful use of the death
penalty’.

With the amount of stuff written in here there won't be time to read a book. 24.gif

It sounds interesting, but very confronting.

I always try to squeeze in a little time to read a book every now and then...maybe a little less time on FBD pcadict.GIF

The material does not sound all that cheery, but it does sound like an interesting and fascinating read (particularly for those with an interest in the death penalty, law generally, and Singapore)...

I read Kerobokan while on holiday, not sure whether or not I believe all that was written in it, but interesting all the same pcadict.GIF

Maybe Bonella will return to Kerobokan to write the sequel and this time report on the situation as it is today. For instance, the person in charge of the prison was once a radical Muslim but converted to Christianity. He is busy going around the island of Bali from one church to another church testifying about his life and how the Lord Jesus Christ change him.

My local library does not have a copy of "Hotel K" and I cannot bring myself to buy a copy...so, I am unread with respect to that particular book...

Thanks for the link. I am certainly more interested in the Shadrake book.

I asked him to get his publisher to put a link so people outside KL can buy it. They're working on it.

Alan Shadrake arrested in Singapore

SINGAPORE police arrested a British author yesterday, a day after he launched a book alleging double standards in the city-state's use of the death penalty.

Maybe he should have waited till he was in a different country before he released the book?

I hope he's ok, it's a scary situation.
