QUOTE

A home visit by Tokyo officials to a local resident to congratulate him on his 111th birthday instead led to a police search that uncovered his three-decade-old skeleton, media reported on Thursday.

The officials in the Japanese capital believed Sogen Kato was the eldest resident of Adachi ward and visited his listed address to honour him on his birthday, public broadcaster NHK and Jiji Press reported.

Have a look at the pension recieved for 6 yrs, that's near 3 times more than we get here in Aus.
I'm leaving for Tokyo. biker.gif

Good grief that's a bit bizarre and sad that no one even missed him or noticed that he died.

Well apparently one of the family members said chit has anybody seen grand dad lately ?

Someone else said better go up to his bedroom and see if he is OK , i just remember he has missed my last 30 birthdays .

Just then the officials knock on the door,,anyway he was a quiet man so nobody missed him much,,but they did remember that his pension was still coming in,, blink.gif

Perhaps rest of immediate family had passed away or living far distance and did not travel, it was obvious the grand daughter knew about it, and perhaps she was the only one of the family who cared enough to keep the pensions going.

I wonder how long they were going to keep it going? Surely they knew it couldn't last forever.

After getting away with it for 30 years they might have thought they may well have kept it going.

I think the problem is they might have thought what can we do ? They might have wondered how they could report his death and get away with a doctors report that says he just died,, they might have felt they were stuck between a rock and a dead body on a bed.

Same with anyone who rips off the system, after a while it becomes habit because they have not yet been caught, but sooner or later, something will give it away.

My sister lived for 5 years in japan and said the cost of living is way more expensive then here. So I guess it would all be relevant.

I spoze so, since it was and or still is listed as the 2nd richest city in the world (Tokyo)
